As your local chapter to United States Lifesaving Association, HLA assists in the training and funding of a competition team at the junior level and lifeguards levels to USLA National Lifeguard Competition each August. Competing since 1988, HLA has one of the largest teams to compete in the national competition each year and has brought home hundreds of medals in both junior and lifeguard competitions. HLA placed third overall among 27 teams in 2021.

An annual lifeguard tournament is hosted at East Hampton Main Beach each July hosting a dozen teams of lifeguards across Long Island competing in several land and water events.

A bi-annual event by the International Life Saving Federation where more than 4,000 elite competitors from across the globe compete in lifesaving events. HLA has had several competitors compete at the World Championships over the past 10 years.
